Sedation for dental or surgical procedures can be classified into different levels of sedation. The most commonly thought of sedation is general anesthesia. General anesthesia is usually performed in the hospital by an anesthesiologist. A lighter or not as profound anesthesia commonly performed in the dental office is IV (intravenous) sedation. IV sedation in the dental office does not put you in as deep of sedation as general sedation. However, you will not remember anything, feel anything, or hear anything during the procedure. IV sedation is available at Royal Oaks Dentistry by a trained dental anesthesiologist at an additional expense. The cost of IV sedation is between $750-$2000. We also offer conscious sedation which is by far our most popular choice. Conscious sedation is a technique where the doctors use a combination of a mild anti-anxiety medication with nitrous oxide (relaxing gas). During this type of sedation, patients commonly fall asleep during longer dental appointments and remember very little or nothing about the appointment. You will need to have a driver to and from the appointment for this option. We do not charge an additional fee for these services. The cost of conscious sedation is $0. If there is a dental procedure that has been recommended and you are anxious or unsure about the appointment, just ask one of our team members or the doctor and we can review if you are a good candidate for this type of sedation.
