Oral surgery is defined as any type of surgery preformed within the oral cavity. Both Dr. Ron Collins and Dr. Dath Collins perform a wide variety of oral surgery procedures. One of the most common types of oral surgery is the removal of teeth. Teeth are removed for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to: the tooth is considered non-restorable, before orthodontics (to allow enough space to align the teeth) or poorly aligned wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last molars to erupt into the mouth. These teeth usually make their appearance in the late teens to early twenties. It is fairly common for these teeth to become impacted (stuck below the gums). Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to very serious conditions which can include swelling, pain and/or infection. We screen for potential wisdom teeth complications with our digital Panoramic X-ray. It is important to have a discussion with your dentist about the potential benefits and complications of having wisdom teeth removed.
